There have always been ethical and legal debates over surrogacy in India, but with the availability of new medical techniques and the acceptance of this method among more and more Indians, surrogacy India is becoming a successful method of giving birth to a child not just for Indian couples who have not been able to conceive but also for foreign couple who comes to India because finding a surrogate mother is easier in India than in many other countries.
Cost of a Surrogate Mother varies widely because there are no fixed costs. You can choose a surrogate mother through an agency or a clinic. There are many NGOs that can put you in touch with a potential surrogate mother. You can also choose someone from your family to be the surrogate mother. Choosing someone from the family has always been a debatable issue as the surrogate mother would always have an attachment with the child which can cause problems in the future.
Generally the cost of surrogate mother in India varies from INR 7, 50,000 ($15,000) to INR 15, 00,000 ($30,000). This cost includes the monthly wages of the surrogate mother, maintenance charges, cost for pre natal care, pre natal medical expenses, post natal medical expenses and a payment for giving consent to be a surrogate mother. While surrogacy in India is much cheaper than most other countries even though commercial surrogacy is legal here, this is one reason why surrogacy in India is becoming so popular among foreign couples.
Surrogacy is India is not governed by any legislation but by a set of guideline given by the law commission of Indian Council of Medical Research. These guidelines govern all assistive reproductive techniques including surrogacy. These guidelines have been set in order to ensure the success of any surrogacy arrangement and to control the arrangements in the country.
Every years hundreds of Indian and foreign couples receive the joy of parenthood because of surrogacy. As time progresses, the Indian masses would accept surrogacy as a method of having a child for parents who cannot conceive a child.
